Double opt-in that does not look like a stock mail

Anyone running a newsletter under GDPR needs a clean double opt-in. Leave it to the provider and you get unstyled stock mails — or pay extra for them. Build it yourself and you are writing token logic, consent proof and provider sync by hand.

The job is small but delicate: a branded confirmation mail, legally sound wording, expiring tokens, spam protection, list sync. Skit Optin handles exactly that step — the provider becomes just the address book.

solution

✓ Your own confirmation flow on your server — no provider DOI needed
✓ Mail design fully editable, four built-in templates
✓ Consent stored verifiably (Art. 7 GDPR)
✓ MailerLite, Brevo or webhook sync only after confirmation

Everything an opt-in needs

Confirmation mails

Full HTML mails you create, edit, duplicate and activate in wp-admin — with placeholders like {{confirm_url}}, live preview and test send. Four built-in designs as a starting point.

Consent proof

Every signup stores the exact consent wording shown, plus timestamp, IP and user agent — the standard evidence set for Art. 7 GDPR. CSV export included.

Provider sync

MailerLite or Brevo via API, a generic webhook (JSON POST, optionally HMAC-signed) for Zapier, Make, n8n and custom systems — or “local only” with CSV export.

Opt-in form

Add it via the [skit_optin_form] shortcode — lean markup with its own minimal styling. On Divi 5 sites it picks up the Global Colors (var(--gcid-*)) automatically.

Spam protection

Honeypot field, per-IP rate limit and optional reCAPTCHA v3 (invisible). Bots get a silent OK — no confirmation mail, no list entry.

Interest checkboxes

Optional product/topic checkboxes in the form — labels freely configurable. Selections are stored and mapped to configurable group IDs on MailerLite.

Token logic

Confirmation links with SHA-256 hash and configurable TTL. Stale signups expire automatically, failed provider syncs retry daily.

Redirects & legal pages

Redirect to your own thank-you/error pages after confirmation — or back home with a status parameter. Privacy and imprint links land in the mail automatically.

GDPR at the core

Consent wording editable and stored versioned per signup, no external consent services, all data stays on your server.

Runs wherever WordPress runs

Skit Optin needs no page builder and no Divi — the form is a plain shortcode with its own minimal styling. On Divi 5 sites it picks up the Global Colors automatically.

compatible with

✓ Any WordPress theme — Divi 5 included, but never required
✓ MailerLite & Brevo natively — everything else via the generic webhook
✓ Caching plugins — the form works through the REST API
✓ Multilingual — all texts (form, mail, errors) freely editable

The opt-in is live on this site

The newsletter at the bottom of the homepage — and the confirmation mail you get there — runs on this plugin. The form, mail template and consent proof are live in action.

The signup is real — subscribers get the confirmation mail and land in the list.

Setup in four steps

Installation

Upload the plugin ZIP under Plugins → Add New and activate. Embed the form with [skit_optin_form] — the confirmation mail works with the default template right away.

Connect a provider

MailerLite: API token + group ID — keep “Double opt-in for API and integrations” off, the plugin does the DOI itself. Brevo: API key + list ID. Or a webhook URL — or “local only”.

Mail & texts

Subject, intro, button and footer of the confirmation mail are options; the layout comes from the active template. Consent text, form texts and thank-you/error redirects are freely configurable.

Support & changelog

Support via hello@diviskit.com. The changelog ships with the plugin (readme.txt); the source code is public on GitHub (GPL-2.0).

Frequently asked questions

Why not the provider’s own DOI?

Provider DOIs are unstyled, usually English and sometimes paid. Skit Optin sends your mail in your design and wording — the provider only sees the confirmed contact.

Do I need MailerLite or Brevo?

No. With “store locally” confirmed addresses stay in the WP table and export as CSV. For any other service there is the generic webhook.

Is the proof GDPR-compliant?

The plugin stores the shown consent text, timestamp, IP and user agent per signup — the usual evidence basis under Art. 7 GDPR. That does not replace legal advice on your wording.

What happens to sk-mailerlite-doi?

Existing installs migrate automatically — options, subscriber table, cron. Confirmation links already sent and the old

shortcode keep working.

Do I need Divi?

No. The form is a shortcode with its own styling and runs on any theme. On Divi 5 sites it picks up the Global Colors automatically.

Does it replace legal advice?

No. Skit Optin provides the technical implementation — confirmation flow, evidence, provider sync. The legally sound wording of your consent remains your job.
